Playa San Miguel is located on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula in Guanacaste. As one of the last untouched areas in this country, it is truly unique. Rolling green hills and beaches of clear blue water, small towns, and cattle ranches are all you will find as you pass thru this area. This 100km stretch of the coast is only accessible by dirt roads and often it is necessary to cross a river to reach your destination. Traffic is non existent here and 4WD is necessary.

Located one hour from any shopping or tourism center we are certainly separated from many of the typical luxuries of a resort town, and we like that!

There is plenty to do in this area for those looking for a little adventure, privacy, and relaxation. Hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, playing in the surf, or sport fishing, all are here. And you won't have to wait your turn or worry about booking everything in advance. Relax, take your time and plan your activities as you wish; like we said there is never a crowd. We have boogie boards, kayaks, masks and fins available to our clientele, for those who wish to pass the day surfing or snorkeling on an empty beach, this is the place for you. It is not uncommon to be the only one on the beach. There are several day trips we can recommend if you want to get out and see more of the Peninsula or do some shopping. Our favorite is the 30km drive to Mal Pais where the beach becomes your road. A truly amazing drive for the adventurous type.

Our particular location on the hill provides you, our guest, with the ultimate in privacy. With only four cabinas we guarantee that there will never be a crowd. Our rooms are cozy, each with a truly spectacular view of the Pacific coast. As you fall asleep all you will hear is the pounding of the surf below.

The cabinas are all equipped with AC, hot water, and a private outdoor shower. All bedding and linens are US standard.

Adjacent to the cabinas is the private rancho and pool. Here is the perfect place to spend an afternoon, or a day, lounging and taking in the views. Our pool is strategically located almost at the edge of our property so you can hang over the side and feel like you are floating above the town.

The Rancho is one of our favorite places to be with friends. With views of the coastline, a cool breeze always passing thru, and the fridge nearby with cool beverages and delicious treats, this is the place to enjoy each others company, take in a good book, or catch a nap in the hammock. In the evenings it is also the best place in town for sunset cocktails and bocas.

Cristal Azul is owned and operated by husband and wife team Henner Morales and Zene Randall. He a native to Costa Rica and sport fishing captain and she and ex teacher and transplant from Boston, they have strived to create an environment which offers travelers a different experience than that of the typical beach front cabina hotels that dot the coast, and the larger all inclusive luxury resorts. Having found the perfect location for their dream, the couple has sought to give clients their own private piece of paradise while in Costa Rica.
