Extreme temperature variations are non-existent, despite the fact that the peninsular is semi-tropical. The average midday winter temperature is 18Â° C (64Â° F), and the average midday summer temperature is 24Â° C (75Â° F). The seasons are opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere.

Karikari Peninsula is one of the best saltwater fishing areas New Zealand has to offer and one of the best Marlin fishing grounds in the world.

There are numerous bays and secluded coves surrounding the Peninsula offering unspoilt privacy and the absolutely crystal clear waters of the Pacific Ocean.
These bays also provide an abundant supply of fresh shellfish virtually on your doorstep. The waters of Doubtless Bay and surrounding areas are known for their safe swimming and fishing. Surrounding hills and bush land serves as an abundant hunting ground for wild pig and other wildlife.

This area offers it all for the keen hunter, fisherman, retiree or the everyday working person who wants to enjoy all the luxuries available at your doorstep.

The famous 90 mile beach on the opposite coast [West Coast] of New Zealand is a one hour drive away, this is where one of the greatest beach based fishing contest is held every year where fishermen and woman from around the world gather to compete in the week long contest which offers prizes ranging from new motor vehicles to a $50,000 cash first prize [and no taxes to pay].

The cottage offers such a cozy atmosphere with a nice flow throughout and the most beautiful views one could ever hope to wake up to. The front garden has a base of crushed seashells which creates a nice beach atmosphere. It is very privately fenced providing a perfect area for private gatherings. It has a bar in one corner and a sunken 5000 gallon water tank which provides an enormous tabletop for serving your seafood dinners.

Also the rear cobbled patio area overlooks the beach and boat launching bay which provides an everlasting view of activity and beauty. This area includes a barbeque area and the fish cleaning station is at arms reach providing a complete outdoor preparation, cooking and dining area.

There is parking for three vehicles in the two tiered parking lot below the rear patio and another area outside the front garden fence beside the roadside for two vehicles.

To the North are surrounding hills making up the balance of the upper Peninsula providing awesome hiking and running trails.

The nearest major city [Kaitaia] is 40 minutes drive providing small airport, banks, supermarkets, car dealerships, hotels, motels, restaurants, hardware, building supplies and many more shops and places to visit.

Locally within a mile or so there is a garage/gas station/grocery store, takeaway bar for fast food, fire station, school, camp grounds and not to mention the Carrinton Club providing a world class golf course, fine dining restaurant, it's own vineyards and winery, skeet shooting, heated pools and tennis courts.

The local residents of Doubtless Bay have one thing in common and that is to enjoy the natural beauty that this area offers. They are very friendly and hospitable and always willing to lend a hand to those that need it, whether your vehicle has hit a soft spot of sand and has become immobile or you have simply run out of fishing bait, there is always a willing helper nearby.

New Zealand does not have any snakes period, no big ants like the States have that will feed on you as you lay in the grass, no tornados or hurricanes. The air is clean, absolutely zero smog, the sky is a brilliant blue color unseen in the States, the grass is a rich green year round, property taxes are low and hospital medical care is free including heart bypass operations, broken limbs, knee and hip replacements etc. Local doctors visit charges are minimal.

The reason I left this piece of paradise is to pursue a career in the USA.
Since leaving NZ this cottage has only ever been used by immediate family for vacations, otherwise it has been vacant and cared for by my mum and dad and watched over by our retired farmer neighbors. It has never been smoked in and comes fully furnished. Master bedroom has queen bed, 2nd bedroom has bunks, living area has fold out futon couch/bed [queen size] and conservatory has fold out three seater couch/bed [queen size], sleeps eight. It is immaculately clean and tidy.

We have taken a lot of pride in our home and have established it to maximize it's surroundings.

The cottage is located in a cul de sac, three houses from the [dead] end where you walk a short bush track to the beach. Less than 2 minutes stroll from the cottage to the water.
The cottage sits on a small hill giving great views of the bay and boat launching area.
