Botany Bay Island near Charleston, S.C. is one of the last remaining undeveloped oceanfront islands in the area. It consists of 600 acres of prime maritime forest and wetland preserves.
We host active nesting bald eagles, ospreys, loggerhead turtles, myriads of dolphins, etc. This special property for sale consists of a one acre oceanfront lot which has been improved by adding a septic system, pilings for a cottage, oystershell drive, and electricity.
It is surrounded by maritime forest. The island is owned primarily by 12 families, who have placed a large portion of the island under a conservation easement in conjunction with the nature conservancy.
We share a "lodge", which sleeps 26 people, built by the premiere builders Bennett Hoffard. In addition to owning your own lot, upon which you may build a house or guest cottage to live in, or use, as often as you wish, plus 1/12th ownership of the island and its ammenities, you will also get 4 weeks use per year in the lodge (one in each season). This is rustic elegance at it's finest, and is a wonderful place for family gatherings, school sleepovers, etc. It has a gourmet kitchen with double ovens, two refrigerators, two dishwashers. The house has it's own water purification system.
There are golf carts only on the island, so the kids can explore to their heart's content. The island is accessible by boat, a 10 minute ride from Bohicket Marina. We are across the North Edisto River from Seabrook Island, which has many amenities such as pool, tennis, golf, and horseback riding facilities. It is also quite close to Kiawah Island. Botany Island will never be developed, aside from the intent mentioned. If you love privacy and nature, yet yearn to have wonderful cultural activities at hand, this is an unbelievable opportunity to own and enjoy a stunningly beautiful natural habitat so close to Charleston, S.C.
