This 1887, carefully restored, exquisite, opulent, legal-one-family brownstone mansion with significant provenance will fulfill your every dream. Own this elegant mansion as a first class home, a stunning corporate headquarters, a boutique hotel or a charming and lush bed and breakfast. This type of detailed and meticulously designed structure is possibly the only one of its kind in all of New York City. Built by Charles Pfizer and Charles Erhart for their families, 30 years after they embarked on their pharmaceutical career, they spared no detail or expense in its construction. The property footprint is 25’ x 200’, with access from two different streets. The property includes private 3-car parking, the original working Otis elevator (all 5 stories), a parlor floor that is four entertaining rooms deep (with 14’ ceilings), 10 fireplaces (3 gas working on the parlor floor), 10 bedrooms, 6 full baths, 2 half baths, 2 kitchens, 1 butler’s pantry, 3 separate stairwells (one of which is cherry), and 3 outdoor verandas. The garden veranda features a colonnaded entry with polished concrete pathways, granite borders, and recessed lighting beneath and inside the columns for evening gala events.
The neo-classical detail within this palatial estate is fit for royalty and surpasses the expectations of any seeker of unique estate homes. There are fluted Corinthian columns with carved candlestick motif that have been gilded in 22-carat gold. The parlor ceilings are cast plaster in florid Romanesque design with sky murals and centered oval features. The elegant front parlor also has hardwood wainscoting with green onyx inserts around the entire perimeter that match the green onyx of the fireplace. All metalwork fixtures have been re-plated. Most floors are oak with mahogany and maple or fruitwood trim, and some floors are solid maple. The pocket doors are three-inch solid mahogany and have been stripped and hand-rubbed with 20 coats of shellac. There is a half-bath on the parlor level with cherry wood, honey onyx tiled flooring, iridescent glass wall tiles, and a contemporary frosted top-mount glass sink. A second-floor bedroom has been lovingly restored to all of its total cherry glory; wainscoting, doors and private dressing alcove. Many of the rooms on every level have intricate stained glass windows. The working Otis elevator is polished steel with brass-embossed, brocaded fleur-de-lis embellishments and full-length beveled mirrors. The butler’s pantry on the parlor floor has maple cabinetry, black granite surfaces, and a six-burner Viking range and grill with double oven and convection options, 2 sinks, Grohe faucets and brushed stainless steel backsplashes. Several baths have been restored, and throughout this mansion all original detail is intact, not the least of which is the grand carved, five-story mahogany entry staircase.
The garden floor has recently undergone a thorough renovation which includes but is not limited to a 14.5’ x 25’ Moroccan marble tiled party room with all new Moroccan chandeliers, new wiring, marble serving bar, and a full new shower/bath with fish tanks and waterfall shower. The wiring on this level has been completely upgraded into three panel boxes. Water waste lines have been hidden. Custom banquette seating has been installed in the party room and in the center entertaining room. The entry to the garden level has had all chestnut wainscoting stripped, gilded wallpaper installed and ceiling shellacked with recessed adjustable lighting. The garden is being finished with brick and limestone side walls and antique original ironstone railings.
This Clinton Hill, Brooklyn treasure can be lived in flexibly and lavishly. It is near all transportation and is at the hub of the cultural and culinary center of the borough. It awaits your discriminating taste and personal appointments.
