Kizingoni House Kizingoni Beach - LAMU ISLAND - Kenya
Kizingoni House is a striking beach front property on Kizingoni Beach. It stands at the southern tip of Lamu Island, on the far end of Shela Beach – famous for its 12 kilometers of wild, untouched sea-shore and ancient sand dunes that have recently been designated part of the Lamu World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Remote and peaceful, it is a 20 minute boat ride from Lamu town and the airport on Manda Island. Turtles lay their eggs on the beach where long walks are a joy: snorkelling, swimming with dolphins, fishing, dhow sailing, camping out on desert island beaches, water skiing, wake boarding and kite surfing are all possible.
Six houses will be built on one to two acre plots, set on 12 fenced acres of natural coastal bush land and pristine sea shore. Each will be carefully designed to provide maximum privacy, views and comfort. The first house, Kizingoni House, is ready and stands on plots 3 and 4. A second house, Casa House, will be ready in December 2005 on plots 5 and 6.
Kizingoni House has been built and positioned to take full advantage of the west facing view for spectacular sunsets and sea views and to catch the breeze throughout the year. The large central living/dining room is simply designed in the Swahili style with traditional plasterwork and wooden mangati beams, with a magnificent locally crafted dining table. There are 3 baraza (meeting/sitting) areas – one next to the plunge pool, one on the roof and one in the protected courtyard garden.
The house has four bedrooms, all en-suite, with roof fans, mosquito nets and their own private balcony with sea views. The large master bedroom faces west with a superb beach and sea view framed by coconut palms. Its spacious bathroom has a Swahili style bath/shower. There is direct access from the master bedroom to the rooftop patio and bar area.
The house is simply furnished with traditional Swahili items of furniture and some fabrics and pieces from Africa and Asia. There is sufficient linen to provide for 8 guests.
The pool terrace has another large bar, a dining area, sunbeds, a covered baraza terrace and a separate shower and changing room.
The house has its own well, whilst a combination of solar and wind power make it totally self-sufficient for electricity and hot water. A back-up generator for emergencies is also provided. Full internet and telephone communications can be made available through satellite, if required.
The kitchen comes fully equipped with top of the line appliances. It has a gas oven, fridge/freezer, ice-cream maker, blender and sufficient cutlery/flatware, crockery, kitchenware to comfortably cater for 24 people. Over the kitchen there is a room for the live-in cook/steward and there are various storage/laundry rooms off the kitchen.
There is excellent mooring right in front of the house for a boat.
Mature coconut and doum palms grow on the 1.5 acres of land surrounding the house and all the indigenous shrubs and trees around the house– many of them rare and unusual -- have been preserved. A small coconut plantation of 40 palms has recently been replanted next to the house. In the courtyard garden and close to the house jasmine, frangipani, desert rose, date palms, cycads and hibiscus are growing.
The asking price is 600,000 euros
Included in the price is a €6,000 donation for a development project which will be given to the local community in your name. We would like you to be involved with the people of the area and we will include you in the project your donation is used for if you so choose.
A service charge of €600 a month will cover house, garden and pool maintenance; staff recruitment and management; electrical and plumbing maintenance; security; secretarial services and telecommunications. A monthly bill will be raised to cover spares, fuel and other expenses incurred. The six homes will share the concierge service.
The house is owned by Cordia company – buying the company provides tax and visa advantages in Kenya.
Kizingoni House is the first of 6 homes being built on this perfect beach at the very tip of the island. Each home has its own unique design, is self sufficient in power and water and is set into the environment so that it has maximum privacy and sea views.
