Chateau dâ€™Oex is a very beautiful village with plenty of activities both in Winter and Summer. It is an international mountain biking centre and has a large swimming complex as well as being in a very large skiing area. The International Hot Air Balloon Festival at the end of January each year is truly spectacular and Rougemont, with the Menuhin music festival in the summer, is the next stop on the delightful MOB train on the way to Gstaad.

The village has a number of food shops and a supermarket, several hotels, cafes and restaurants, as well as an English library and church. In spite of the latter, it maintains its Swiss-ness with all the usual accoutrements - cows with bells, pretty cottage gardens and a plethora of wild flowers in season.
