In AD 330 the town acquired the name Sozopolis (from Greek - "Town of Salvation") and grew to be one of the biggest ports in the Byzantine Empire. During the last few years the new part of the town has experienced lightning progress, with the building of many private residences, 4-star hotels, restaurants and associated infrastructure. You can reach the town also by sea. The port receives ships from Russia and Turkey. Old Sozopol has kept its local Balkan colour.
