Spa Resorts – Great For Destination Vacations

Posted by Beverly Marshall

Take your next vacation at a destination spa resort. You can pick the type of resort; they offer everything from wellness to indulgence.

What are you looking for if you book reservations at your favorite spa resorts? There are any numbers of things you can do when you go away on vacation at a spa or your favorite golfing resort. Swimming in one of the pools is probably top on your list. If you live in the north woods like I do, it's cold about as much as it is warm. Getting away at a spa resort must include a pool and warm weather. We want to get out into the sun as much as possible. We live on a lake; but you never get tired of waking up to the great view every morning. Water is a big part of our lives so a resort on the ocean is also a fabulous way to relax. I also need to have a wide variety of treatments available to me for whatever mood I'm in for that day. It may be raining so the pool wouldn't be an option. I like to get different spa treatments such as a facial or a massage with a twist. I want to get the salt scrub and herbal massage. I can get the same old treatments at home so the resort is where I splurge on something more unique. I also like attending exercise programs available at most resorts. Some unique fun exercises like Pilates or yoga are good to learn from the experts. I spend time in the hot tub or whirlpool after I get done exercising. For me; it is all about what programs and treatments are offered; my husband likes to golf so if there isn't a course associated with the spa resort; he won't go. Many good resorts out there feature everything for both of us; however I have been known to go off to the spa myself for a long weekend.

A spa resort can mean different things to different people. A club focuses more on fitness and sports such as golf and tennis. A cruise ship concentrates on great cuisine and busy activities so you don't get bored on the boat. Day spas offer treatments on a one day basis only. A destination resort or spa is more of a healthy atmosphere where you might concentrate on changing a lifestyle at a beautiful location; such as Hawaii, Canada, other tropical islands or even Europe. A medical spa is where wellness is a big part of the program; including hydrotherapy in a whirlpool or heat therapy with different types of saunas. A new age spa will introduce you to a variety of wellness techniques you may not be used to such as; using crystals, reflexology, meditation, herbs and more. Mineral springs offer great hydrotherapy options, and a generic resort will offer you most of the above. Spa resorts generally are not inexpensive so be prepared to pay for all of those fun and exciting treatments. Visiting any type of resort or spa is a great way to spend a week or more. Don't forget about the staple of the pool. It's always there, or it needs to be for me to book a reservation.
